The Boys Baptisms
It was a sweet Sunday last week... We baptized our boys at the same time. Indecision caused me to wait till Bennett was 3 years old. Kevin and i questioned weather or not we should baptize Bennett or should he make that decision by himself in the future? But we decided, like our church, that we will baptize them as an outward show of the covenant GOD has with our family. His commitment to us...not our commitment to Him.i am reminded of how the old hymn sings: "Prone to Wander Lord i feel it, prone to leave the GOD i love....Here's my heart Lord take and seal it, seal it for Thy Courts above."...and so Sunday we asked for that SEALING over our children...an outward showing (alongside family and friends)...that we are believing in His commitment to us.
It was sweet to ask GOD's blessing on both our boys.
1.Bennett means "Benediction..blessing"...my prayer is that HE would be blessed by GOD's hand..God's gaze would be on Him, and He would know GOD and walk closely with Him. That Bennett would be a "blessing" to others. That there would be favor on Him. That laughter and joy would mark him. Before He was born i sensed that he would be a funny guy and bring people laughter.
The verse i prayed for Bennett at baptism: "Surely GOD is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation" ISaiah 12:2-4
2. Amos means burden..and carried by GOD. We have prayed that He would have no burden on this earth but the burden of love for GOD. That He would have not the worries of the world on his shoulders, but the heart of GOD. a yoke He says is easy and light.
May God's Spirit carry Him, speak to Him, lead Him through His days. Before He was born i sensed Amos would be like a flower in the dessert. Strong to sustain harsh surroundings..a breath of fresh air to all around Him...presenting life instead of death.
The verse for baptism: (this is the verse said of Jesus..and so i pray Jesus' Spirit is in Amos).."The Spirit of the Lord ( Jesus) rest on him..a spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of The Lord..and he will delight in the fear of The Lord" Isaiah 11 2-3
I pray for humility amidst the gifts and strengths he would carry....
